Portfolio 2020

A simple and clean portfolio for 2020.

Project Breif

The brief for this project was to rebuild my development & design portfolio with a beautiful, modern and responsive design.

For this project, I wanted to rebuild my development & design portfolio for 2020. I decided that I wanted to use WordPress for the backend of the website to keep it simple and easy to add pages and content.

The theme for my portfolio was completely custom and made by me using HTML, CSS, Javascript & PHP. I also integrated Sendgrid (an email delivery service) into the contact form for a more reliable system when it comes to people contacting me.

Design

For the design of my 2020 portfolio, I wanted it to feel warm and welcoming, with a beautiful, modern look and a responsive design.

I decided to use my personal favourite colours, as it is my portfolio, and I think it is important to represent who I am. I went through many different iterations at the design stage, as well as when I started the development stage of the project.

I used shades of Purple, Magenta and Yellow for the website, with yellow being the highlight colour for anything that I wanted to have attention to; such as call to action buttons and highlighted words. The software I used to design this portfolio was InVision Studio which is a fantastic program for prototyping and testing design ideas.

Things I learnt

Throughout the whole process I was constantly learning new things as well as testing out ideas.

I did a lot of testing regarding the text on the website and getting feedback from other people.

I wanted to see the impact of uppercase text in certain areas as well as the home page, but I later decided that I only wanted headers, tags and the menu to have uppercase text. The text being lowercase for the rest of the website was much easier to read and scan through.
